Ok, I say this with literally everything in life, “you get what you pay for.” I know none of us are millionaires, nor do we have trust funds that were being bank rolled off of (I sure as sh*t do not). BUT, the less expensive, the less service, security, quality, etc. you will get. My biggest piece of advice is just being SMART about travel. Open a travel card that has an incentive for points (but do NOT go into debt doing so bc it will backfire). Tack some travel onto a work trip. Travel with a friend or family member or significant other who is going away for a trip. Just be smart and strategic where you can- that’s what I do. Make sure you are signing up for loyalty programs for both hotels and airlines. Whichever one you frequent most and stick to it because it does pay off!
USE POINTS. As I said above, sign up for your most traveled programs and stick to it. I am in Jersey/ NYC and have always flown out of Newark. Because of that, I’ve almost just always naturally flown United- my parents had a member number for me since I was little, so it just made sense. My parents have also always been Marriott people. Marriott and United are affiliated so you can transfer points back and forth. Marriott has some very expensive and nice hotels (think Ritz and St. Regis) and also some very economy friendly hotels (AC, courtyard, Fairfield, etc.). Whichever brand you choose, try to stay loyal bc it pays off. I’ve flown internationally 4 times on United points. AKA for free.
Sign up for a cheap flight subscription. Ok, I signed up for Scotts Cheap Flights and it got me 350 round trip to Heathrow from Newark on United. I then made London the hub on the 2 ends of my trip then flew throughout Europe in between by flights to and from London (its literally cheap AF, like same price as NJ Transit weekly train pass or less). So, if you can make London(or any other EU country with a cheap flight deal) your starting and ending point then go to other countries between, def try to do it!
Sealed with a Spritz
