I mean, the number one reason to go to Italy is the food, no? I don’t think a bad meal exists in this country if I’m being honest.
Unfortunately I have a gluten allergy BUT Italy happens to have SO many gluten-free options. Even when I was here 6 years ago they had so much more than we did in the USA, it was impressive.
My diet here mainly consisted of cheese, cheese, and more cheese. I somehow lost weight while here so basically an all cheese diet is he key to weight loss (or the 17,000 steps I walked a day).
Anyway, let’s get to the good stuff- where to eat! I will note that I do not eat seafood but I had tuna here. Of course, the seafood is apparently TO DIE FOR since it’s so fresh so I recommend ordering fish if it’s your cup of tea.
Casa e Bottega
The actual cutest, healthy cafe. They are open for breakfast and lunch. Most hotels include breakfast with your stay but I really really recommend coming here at least once. They have the best juices, smoothies, baked goods, and an iced almond milk cappuccino that I still dream of. They also sell handmade pottery that I basically bought out while there. It’s a bit up the hill so you will earn the food. It’s owned by an amazing family who has a really cute pup (an added plus). They are only open for breakfast and lunch but have a sister restaurant (next reco) that is open for only dinner.
Next2
This is owned by the same people as Casa e Bottega so going into it I knew I was going to get a healthy, delicious, meal. I was BLOWN away by their wine selection. If you had a wine at your family holiday that your rich aunts bf brought from France when he was traveling with his boujee friends, they will have it. Ok this post was about food. The food was AMAZING. We told them we had met their family members at Casa and they treated us like royalty. The chef gave us so many complementary dishes I almost couldn’t finish my dinner. The stand out was the stuffed zucchini flower, it’s basically a delicacy overseas and it’s TO DIE FOR
Ristorante Max
I was skeptical about this bc it’s one everyone recommends but honestly I had it as my last meal in Positano the second time I went and let me tell you it was insane. It’s an art gallery down one of the winding paths of Positano town center. It is worth the hype 1000%. I think I had ravioli not sure but it was so good you can not go wrong.
Chez Black
This is an iconic beach front restaurant right on the main beach, Spiaggia Grande. All the plates are different, beautiful, ceramics that were made on the Amalfi Coast. The owners are SO nice and gave us complementary drinks because there was a 15 minute wait (hello I’m from NYC that’s literally nothing). The eggplant and ravioli were both AMAZING here. People say it’s “touristy,” which it is but the food was still impressive.
il Ritrovo
Ok this may have been my favorite meal my entire trip. Il Ritrovo is ALLL the way up the mountain a few towns north of Positano. Seriously, there is a major altitude difference. They have a complementary shuttle and come pick you up in the main part of town. My mom and I had met another mother daughter duo who we totally hit it off with and basically were separated at birth so we came here with them. I got the bolognese. Best. Meal. Ever. Seriously, do yourself a favor and order this if you come! Soooo amazing. They also have homemade wine which is superb as well. They gave us each a complementary bottle of red as we left so it’s an A+ in my book!
D’Arienzo Beach Club
I ate here for lunch. They have 2 reservation times, 130 and 330. Basically you come to the beach club for the day and then eat at the restaurant. This was hands down the best lunch we had when in Italy. The beach is gorgeous which also helps. I suggest coming for the full day and eating here! You can’t walk here, it’s secluded from the main town so they offer a complementary boat shuttle from the main beach to take you to and from.
Villa Trevelle
This is another beach club, similar to the above, you need to take a boat “shuttle” since it is secluded from the main part of town. The food was decent, not my favorite meal but still so good. The ambiance is amazing and the beach is gorgeous. It was super windy when I was here so it was a little less enjoyable but still amazing none the less.
If you end up going to any of these places, let me know how you like them!
Sealed with a Spritz
