POSITANO TRAVEL GUIDE

Ti Amo, Positano

Positano, how do I begin to describe my love for you?

Positano is truly BEYOND. If you’ve been, you get it. If you haven’t been, you will understand once you get there. I’ve had a love-affair with Italy ever since I went 5 years ago. I went to Florence, Rome, Tuscany, and Cinque Terre. From the second I stepped foot on the plane to go home, I’ve been fantasizing about going back. I’ve seen a million pictures of the Amalfi Coast on Pinterest, in Gray Malin photos, on social media, the list goes on and on. I knew I had to go there. When people asked me about my dream vacation I would reply, “The Amalfi Coast with an Aperol Spritz, sitting on the beach, eating all the cheese.” (I really meant alll the cheese) So once I realized I had some time off and enough points for a round trip ticket to Europe, I decided to pull the trigger and book IT. IT being my dreaaammm trip to the Amalfi Coast. After some research, I realized that I wanted my home base on the mainland to be Positano. And I am so glad I made that decision!

Before I really get into it about Positano, I guess I should talk about how to get there. I flew into Naples which is about an hour and a half drive from Positano. I HIGHLY suggest you book a car service either through your hotel or a private company, especially if you have a decent amount of luggage (says the serial overpacker). The drive is NOT for the feint of heart and there is no parking once you get to Positano. Since I work in NYC, public transportation is the bain of my existence so I welcomed the luxury of having someone take me in an air conditioned car that didn’t leave me smushed into someone un-deoderized armpit(come to NYC in a heatwave, then get back to me).

Our driver, Ciro, picked us up from the airport and the journey began. He asked us if we wanted to stop for an espresso and shot of limoncello at a lemoncello factory somewhere on the winding coastal road the answer was obviously, DUH! It was so gorgeous and the view looked fake. I thought I was still dreaming in my jet-lagged, sleepy, stupor but it was real. The espresso is delicious and the limoncello is even better. After a swift kick from those tiny beverages, we continued on to Positano. There are no streets after a certain point so we needed to walk to our hotel and paid the 8 euro for a luggage porter (best money I ever spent)

Since we stayed in a hotel right on the water, we were close to EVERYTHING. We were right on the main beach, Marina Grande. You can really spend hours walking the streets and alleys (not in a creepy way) and never get bored. I will say that this is not the place to break in a new pair of shoes. There are ALOT of hills and you should have shoes that you are comfortable (think over 12 thousand steps worth) walking in.

My biggest piece of advice is to order a spritz and really soak it all in. Every view, meal, drink, shop, smell, turn. Pictures truly do not do this beautiful town justice. I can guarantee you will leave with a full heart, an immense love for Italy, a tighter butt, and mayyybe a bigger waistline;)
